DENIM, DENIM, DENIM - The hottest fashion look this spring is embellished denim, specifically jeans, skirts and jackets.  If you have an old pair of jeans, preferably one that's been washed "too death", grab your scissors, glue, fusible web and ribbons, appliques, rhinestones and fabric paint and you're ready to create your own for a fraction of the price of boutique and department store items!!! MATERIALS Assorted ribbons in a variety of widths and coordinating prints, patterns, and solid colors (we used 5 different ribbons ranging in width from 3/8" to 1 1/2" and approximately 2 yds. of each different ribbon, adding several more yards for the belt) Pre-made ribbon roses, bumble bees, butterflies, and daisies Wooden beads, fringe, and other charms Appliques, rhinestones, fabric paint Needle and thread Jeans with wider legs DIRECTIONS For ease in stitching, open the inside seam on the jeans leg. Pin rows of ribbons in a pleasing manner across bottom of jeans.  Be creative and vary the sizes and patterns of ribbons used, having multiple rows of ribbons in place.  Stitch by machine using a straight stitch along both edges of ribbon.  (If you prefer, lightly glue ribbon along center of ribbon to jeans to secure before stitching edges down.)  Or you can use fabric glue or a fusible web. Hand stitch ribbon flowers and "bugs" to jeans legs.  Create flower stems by stitching rows of ribbons under flowers.  If using a narrow ribbon for stems, these may be zigzagged in place through the center of the ribbon instead of down each edge. Stitch pant leg seams together. For additional embellishments, make ribbon bows and stitch by hand to pockets.  String wooden beads on long narrow ribbons lengths and tie together to create belt.  Hand stitch ribbon roses and other flowers to pocket edges. VARIATIONS - pull threads to create fringe, make designs with fabric paint, glue on appliques, rhinestones, studs.
