Brocade Pillow

 

 

BROCADE PILLOW

MATERIALS

Flanged pillow: 15" x 11" pale green brocade
Sheer ribbon: 1 1/2"-wide-moss green chiffon (1 3/8 yd.) 
Wire-edge ribbon:

3/8"-wide - sage taffeta (1/4 yd.);
5/8"-wide - ivory satin (1/2 yd.);
7/8"-wide - gold mesh (7/8 yd.);
1 1/2"-wide - ivory taffeta (1/2 yd.),
1 1/2"-wide - sage taffeta (1 yd.),
1 1/2"-wide - mauve taffeta (1 1/8 yds.),
1 1/2"-wide - yellow taffeta 1 1/4 yds.)

  • Trim: metallic gold (1 1/4 yds.)
  • Pearls: 7-8 mm (7)
  • Florists tape: pale green
  • Florists wire: 16-18 gauge 

General Supplies & Tools

  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Needles: hand-sewing
  • Pencil
  • Scissors: fabric
  • Thread: coordinating
  • Wire cutters

  • DIRECTIONS

    1. Using 1 1/2" ivory taffeta wire-edge ribbon, make one rose, using Antique Rose Variation. Refer to General Instructions for Rose.


    2. Using fabric scissors, cut ivory satin wire-edge ribbon into three 6" lengths. Make each ribbon into a twisted rosebud. Refer to Instructions for Twisted Rosebud at bottom of page.


    3. Cut mauve wire-edge ribbon into one 24" length and two 7" lengths. Refer to General Instructions for Rose. Make 24" ribbon, using Crinkled Rose Variation.


    4. Fold each 7" ribbon into a twisted rosebud.


    5. Cut yellow wire-edge ribbon into one 18" length and three 7" lengths. Make 18" ribbon into a rose. Refer to General Instructions for Rose.


    6. Refer to General Instructions for Twisted Rosebud at bottom of page. Make each 7" ribbon into a twisted rosebud.


    7. Cut 1 1/2" sage wire-edge ribbon into twelve 3" lengths. Make each ribbon into a pointed leaf.


    8. Cut gold mesh wire-edge ribbon into eleven 2 1/2" lengths. Make each ribbon into a pointed leaf, using No-sew Variation.


    9. Using wire cutters, cut florists wire into two 8" lengths. Using pale green florists tape, wrap leaves in one stem of five and one stem of six.


    10. Sew gold metallic trim onto pillow at flange seam.


    11. Using hot glue gun and glue stick, *attach flowers, leaves, leaf clusters, and pearls onto pillow top.


    12. Cut moss green sheer ribbon into one 12" length and one 10" length. Loosely knot middle and one end of 12" ribbon. Knot one end of 10" ribbon. Glue onto pillow top. Refer to Brocade Pillow Placement.


    13.Fork-Cut knotted ribbon ends. Refer to Fork Cut instructions at bottom of page.

    14. Make four loops from remaining moss green sheer ribbon. Glue between leaves around mauve rose as shown in Diagram A.


    15.Tightly twist 3/8" - wide sage wire-edge ribbon into a cord. Twist cord around a pencil to form a tendril. Refer to Diagram B.

    16. Glue tendril onto pillow top at base of one leaf cluster as shown.

     

    Twisted Rosebuds

    1.Hold ribbon between thumb and forefinger of left hand. Wrap ribbon around tip of forefinger to create a small cone.

    2. Continue wrapping ribbon around fingertip giving ribbon a half twist inward every 1" - 1/2". Wrap entire length of twisted ribbon around fingertip. Remove bud from finger. Fold loose ends into center of bud.

    3. Completed Twisted Rosebud

    Pointed Petal or Leaf

    1. Overlap ends of ribbon.

    2. Gather-stitch at bottom edge. Gather tightly to form petal. Wrap thread around stitches to secure Trim excess 1/8" past stitching.

    3. Completed Pointed Petal or Leaf.

     

    Fork Cut

    1. Fold desired ribbon in half lengthwise.

    2. Cut end of ribbon diagonally from corner point on selvage edge.

    3. Completed Fork Cut.
