  • DIRECTIONS: for "boat" leaf

(Use the size and length of ribbon specified for each flower.)

    1. Fold ribbon in half.

    2. Fold corners at right angle on each end.

    3. Stitch along folded corners and across short edge of ribbon using a running or gathered stitch.

    4. Gently pull thread to gather ribbon. Knot off thread to secure gathers.

    5. Turn excess ribbon from folded corners and open to make leaf.

    For Rubrum Lily

    1. Make 1 leaf from 7/8" green wire edge Ombre ribbon.

    2. Make 6 petals from 8" lengths of 1 1/2" pink wire edge Ombre ribbon. Use permanent marker and randomly "dot" center of each petal.

    3. Cut brown chenille and yellow chenille into 3" lengths. Use 1 length of brown and 6 lengths of yellow for stamens. Bend one end of each piece to make a "T". Put brown in center. Surround with yellow stamens. Wrap with a short length of fine floral wire to hold.

    4. To assemble, take 12" length of 16 gauge stem wire. With pliers, bend small loop at top of stem to prevent stem from being pulled out of flower. Put stamen cluster at top of wire. Wrap with floral wire below loop to secure.

Next add petals - 3 petals evenly spaced around stamens, add remaining 3 petals between each attached petal and wire each petal securely. Twist any remaining wire down stem. With floral tape, start at base of flower and cover all wire and raw edges and entire stem. Add leaves approx. 5"=7" from top to stem. Attach with a 4" length of floral tape.

NOTE: Petals used light edge of ribbon as outer edge. Can be made with reverse edge outside. All petals should be made the same color. Repeat.

    For Tulip (for one)

    1. Make 1 green leaf.

    2. Make 6 petals from 8" lengths of dark pink 1 1/2" wire edge Ombre ribbon.

    3. Cut 3" length of yellow chenille. With needle nose pliers, coil one end tightly for stamen. Attach to stem wire with loop at top of stem (as for rubrum lily). Use fine floral wire to secure.

    4. Attach 3 petals (with seam facing into center) around stamen. Space evenly, Repeat with remaining three petals. Add petals between existing ones. Petals should "cup" around stamen. Attach petals with floral wire. Cover all raw edges and wire and stem with floral tape. Add leaf 5"-7" down stem from flower. Repeat.

    For Bearded Iris (for one)

    1. Make 2 leaves. Use 12" length of ribbon for each.

    2. Cut 1 1/2" wide purple wire edge Ombre ribbon into 8" lengths. Make 3 petals using light edge and 3 petals using dark edge.

    3. Cut (3) 2" pieces of "bump" chenille. Center one "bump" over seam of each dark petal. Glue in place to create "beard".

    4. To assemble, take 3 light petals and glue together at tip of petals, place right sides together when gluing. Fold petals to right side creating a "cup". Prepare a stem wire with a loop at top (see Rubrum Lily). Attach top petals to stem with floral wire. Attach lower bearded petals to stem between top petals "beard" side up. Finish flower as for others. Add 2 leaves to stem as desired. Repeat.

    For Forsythia (for one)

    1. Cut (40) 2" pieces of yellow 1/4" single face satin.

    2. Using 2 pieces of ribbon at a time, fold ribbon in half over a 4" length of fine floral wire. Twist wire to hold ribbon. Cover wire with a short piece of brown floral tape. Make 20 clusters.

    3. Attach clusters randomly to stem wire with brown floral tape. Optional: cut 1 or 2 shorter lengths of stem wire and add several clusters to each then attach to main stem. Repeat as needed.
